Charity History

Getting Started

With support from colleagues at Royal Mail Watford, Mohammed established the AHT in 1995. The Alma Hospital Trust achieved registered charity status with the UK Charities Commission in March 1996 with these objectives:

"The relief of sickness and distress through the provision, or assistance in the provision of, a hospital and medical equipment and services not provided by statutory authorities in the Hafiz Abad District of Pakistan."

Through the tireless fundraising efforts of Mohammed Younis, his trustees and supporters, the charity has been able to secure the support of a wide range of organisations. Major contributions have been received from:

  • Mohammed's colleagues and managers in Royal Mail
  • Union members from the Communication Workers Union and Communication Managers Association throughout the UK
  • A number of business organisations, the T.U.U.T Charitable Trust, the Young Pakistani Doctors Association, the British Muslim community, and the wider general public.

Support has also been given by members of Parliament and the House of Lords, with particularly vital backing coming from Lord Clarke of Hampstead, Lord Ahmed of Rotherham and Watford MP Claire Ward.

In total, funds raised by the AHT have exceeded £300,000, a massive tribute to the generosity of our supporters.
